Power Supply Unit With No Current Limiter Circuit
Posted by J-Marc on 10/14/2014, 17:35
Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month
Price: *****
Ease of Use: *****
Build Quality: ***
Usefulness: **
Overall Rating: ****
Pros:Price is good for what you get. A cheap variable voltage power supply unit. It works on Australian 240V A/C and output voltage is stable.
Cons:There is no current limiter feature in this unit just an over current shutdown. The power lead was also not suitable for Australia. Watch out for overshoot on power on. The corner casing was slightly damage on delivery.
Other Thoughts:Uses an LM723 IC shame they didn't add the current limiter feature. An extra 10R, TIP142, 0R5 & 100k pot from +VS to VC could do the trick. I would also replace the 78L05 regulator with a better 7805.
Bottomline:Should have read the description before buying but for AUD$60 that's not worth returning. I will use it on small projects.
Cheap and very useful, you get more for what you pay

Pros:Cheap, outputs what it says, can be calibrated
Cons:Current does not really work, my A display is not showing anything anymore. I'll have to open it and see what happened
Other Thoughts:shipping is slow, but if you are not in a hurry it does not hurt anybody. Specify your plug, I got a EU as asked.
Bottomline:it's a small useful device, not the best quality, but definitely worth more than what we pay here. I do not regret it at all, I'm a satisfied owner
  Good for the price

Pros:It works well and delivers the 15V @2A as stated. You can calibrate the setpoints (I changed the 3.6V to 3.3V and the 4.8 to 5V for instance).
Cons:Current limiting does not seem to work properly. The transformer seems a bit flaky. But the price is very good.
Other Thoughts:It came with a US style plug that I cut off and replaced with an Europlug.
Bottomline:You can replace the transformer with a better one, as as I can tell right now it is the weakest component.

Pros:I think it is cheap for what it is. Mine came with a 2-pin plug, i cut it off and put a 3-pin uk plug on it. Internally it looks pretty neat. You can calibrate the set voltage settings. (This was the first thing i did using my multimeter)
Cons:None really at the price.
Other Thoughts:From ordering this product it took 15 days to reach me in the UNITED KINGDOM.

No import duties were requested.
Bottomline:I am very pleased with this product. As to its longevity, time will tell.

Pros:Looks good and for a good price
Cons:advertized 220/110 Volts 50/60 Hz but it has only 220V /50 Hz capability.

The transformer has only one primary so I can't adapt it.
Other Thoughts:Probably not worth sending back due to shipping. The picture on the site here clearly shows 110 Volt plug but it came with European plug
Bottomline:I can't use it.
